Cherry-Picker vs Scaffolding: Why High-Level Access Cleaning Is Safer for Your Business

If you manage a body corporate, retail centre, or multi-storey office in Cape Town, sooner or later you'll need the outside of the building cleaned — windows, cladding, signage, or gutters that are simply out of reach from the ground. Traditionally that's meant scaffolding. Increasingly, it doesn't need to.

What is high-level access cleaning?

High-level access cleaning uses a cherry-picker (a hydraulic access lift, sometimes called a "boom lift") to safely reach heights of up to 20 metres or more, without erecting any physical structure against the building. The technician works from a secured, harnessed platform rather than a ladder or scaffold plank.

Beyond cost, the biggest factor is usually risk and liability. Any contractor working at height on your property needs to carry adequate Public Liability insurance and follow proper health and safety protocol — ask for proof before any work begins. It's also worth noting how underserved this niche is in Cape Town — most general cleaning companies simply don't offer it, meaning many buildings go years between a proper high-level clean because nobody made it easy to book.
